What to expect this year

2017/2018

Welcome to the 2017/2018 underage hockey season at Harlequins Hockey Club.  Here is some essential information for parents and players regarding the coming season.

Age Groups

The underage hockey is played within 5 sections, 1st/2nd Class, 3rd/4th Class, 5th/6th Class, 1st/2nd Years and the Under 16 (3rd/4th years).

Beginners Hockey

Children are eligible to play hockey from the age of 6 upwards.  Parents of 1st/2nd class players are asked to accompany their children during training to provide them with additional support.  Beginners include all those starting hockey for the first time.  There will be a beginners group in each age group.  A period of time will be spent teaching the beginner to a level where they can then join in with the main group

Training

Training  will start back on 8th/9th September (see training times above). Blitzes/games will take place periodically and will replace training for those age groups involved.  Parents will be advised of times of blitzes in advance.  On occasion training sessions have to be cancelled particularly in icy weather, as it becomes too dangerous to play on the astro turf surface.  We will do our best to notify all parents of cancellations and hope you will understand this situation

Texting

Parents will be notified by text about blitzes and games.  There will be no text sent for training due to a cost element, this will only happen if training is cancelled.  It is imperative that parents respond Y/N ONLY for blitzes as we need to know numbers before the event and organise coaches and managers for the blitz.  Any additional text to the Y/N will not register as a response.  If you should have any questions regarding blitzes please phone the coach directly.  We must have your number for you to receive texts, we will run a test at the beginning of the season.  If you are not receiving texts please contact the coach of your daughter’s age group. Also to keep up to date e-mails may be sent from time to time with information from the club, if you have an e-mail address please fill in on the application form.

 Social Media

The club has a website at www.corkharlequins.com, from this website you can register to receive the club newsletter.

The club also has a facebook page  a twitter page page and an instagram page

Kit Required

Players provide their own training kit, this includes astro turf runners or runners that have good grip, hockey stick, t-shirts, shorts or training pants.  Club gear will be available to order on Saturday 2nd September 2017 and subsequently can be bought directly online (details to follow). On cold days please ensure players have warm clothing, this applies especially to the younger groups who feel the cold much easier so it is imperative to wrap up. No jewellery to be worn.  Gumshields, shinguards and the correct footwear are mandatory, players cannot train or play without them.  For blitzes 3rd/4th/5th/6th class and games (1st/2nd years, U16) players must wear the correct club gear.

Interested in Coaching/Organising

Most of our existing coaches/organisers are parents of underage players, and have played hockey before or have an interest in the game.  We always offer a warm welcome to new coaches/organisers.  We do need additional help at all levels, please talk to any of our existing coaches if you are interested and they will point you in the right direction.

We look forward to your continued support and hope everyone has an enjoyable season.

Sincerely,

Harlequins Hockey Club Underage Committee
